BYD Tops Global EV Charts With 30% Q2 Growth As Tesla Sales Sink 14% Worldwide

BYD led global new energy vehicle sales in the second quarter of 2025, capturing 18.3% market share, according to Trendforce. Tesla followed with 11.7% after a 14% YoY sales decline across multiple regions, including steep drops in France, Sweden, Denmark, and California. In the UK, Tesla cut lease prices by more than 40% after sales fell over 60%, while BYD surged 314%, selling 3,184 units in July. BYD also set a record in India with over 3,000 units sold by August, surpassing its full 2024 tally. The Chinese automaker is preparing to expand further into Europe with luxury subbrands Yangwang and Denza slated for debut next year.
